The G-SHOCK 40th Anniversary Dream Project #2 was conceived with the
theme "Break the Boundary," reflecting the brand's dedication to
challenging conventional design and functionality. Building upon the success of
the G-SHOCK 35th-anniversary dream project, CASIO has once again stepped into
uncharted territory, blending art and technology.
Revolutionary AI-Enhanced
Design Redefines G-D001's Aesthetic and Functionality
The G-D001's exterior design embodies a groundbreaking fusion of human creativity and AI innovation. Leveraging generative design powered by AI, data collected from 40 years of G-SHOCK development was fed into the system. The result is a 3D model optimized for structural strength, material properties, and manufacturing processes. Human designers then meticulously revised and fine-tuned the AI-generated designs to produce the bezel, band, and face with an entirely original organic form. These creative forms not only challenge conventional notions of G-SHOCK aesthetics but also enhance weight reduction and shock absorption, culminating in a full-metal shock-resistant structure that doesn't rely on traditional resin buffers.
At the heart of this extraordinary project is the innovative use of
generative design, a cutting-edge technique powered by artificial intelligence.
Through a remarkable collaboration between human developers and AI, a
full-metal shock-resistant structure was crafted, featuring a creatively
original organic form. This achievement signifies a remarkable marriage of the
human touch and technological innovation.

The G-D001 timepiece showcases the pinnacle of craftsmanship, with its case, bezel, and band elegantly constructed from 18-karat yellow gold, delivering a profound and opulent luster. The bezel and band, designed with intricate, organic, precision-molded forms, are crafted using the lost-wax casting process typically reserved for fine jewelry. Skilled artisans meticulously hand-polished every component, ensuring that no detail was overlooked. The top bezel, center case, case back, buttons, and clasp were all subjected to specialized cutting, pressing, and polishing processes, resulting in a fusion of toughness and elegance that is unparalleled.

A distinctive feature of the G-D001 is its see-through dial-less face,
created to showcase the intricacies of the internal mechanism. The movement,
designed exclusively for this model, employs a metal main plate, silicone
cogwheels, and 55 ruby bearings, enabling precise hand rotation. The
timepiece's solar cell, incorporating technology commonly used in satellites,
maximizes power generation efficiency, harnessing light that penetrates through
a small gap in the date display. This unique technology ensures reliable power
for various functions, including standard time radio wave reception.

We wanted to upend conventional notions, so we invited mostly young people to be on the project team — with a team of G-SHOCK veterans providing backup — truly a dream project. The team tackled every challenge with unprecedented approaches, including incorporating cutting-edge AI technologies into the design process. The fresh, new perspectives and techniques they applied culminated in the development of a very special timepiece: the G-D001. In keeping with the extraordinary nature of this worldwide limited edition, a special, one-of-a-kind display packaging is designed for the G-SHOCK G-D001. The packaging is a work of art in itself, meticulously crafted to honor the G-SHOCK 40th-anniversary dream project. Designed to look like a tower, it incorporates a front cover designed to slide up to open and down to close, the case features an intricate openwork design adorned with the model numbers of past and present G-SHOCK timepieces. With an LED light housed inside, the display case can also be used to provide indirect lighting in interior spaces, creating a captivating ambience of interwoven shadows and light projecting G-SHOCK history.
The G-SHOCK G-D001 timepiece is a global limited edition with only one unit available worldwide. It will be made available for sale as a charity item in an exclusive auction hosted by Phillips. The auction is scheduled to take place on 9 and 10 December 2023, in the heart of New York City. This unique and highly coveted timepiece, representing the pinnacle of design and innovation, will be auctioned with a profound purpose: all proceeds from the sale will be donated to environmental organizations.
